Entitled Karen Kept Using My EV Charger Without Permission… So I Built a Trap | EntitledPeople Reddit Stories
What do you do when your entitled neighbor (aka Karen) keeps stealing electricity from your EV charger without asking? Simple: you build a trap that drains her Tesla instead of charging it. 😎
In this video, I share how I caught my neighbor using my electric vehicle charging station without permission, despite warning signs and repeated confrontations. She thought she was getting free power - but what she really got was a lesson in electrical engineering revenge.
With the help of my tech-savvy friend, we rigged my Level 2 EV charger with a hidden reverse charging switch that slowly drained her Tesla battery and sent the stolen energy back into my home’s battery bank. When she called the police, tried to sue, and even got the HOA involved… things got even better. 💀
This is a true revenge story about boundaries, karma, and a little bit of good old-fashioned suburban justice. If you’ve ever had to deal with an entitled neighbor, Karen behavior, or someone who abuses your generosity - this one’s for you.

If this really happened, it could be dealt with by simply shutting off the breaker to the charging station when not used by the owner.

Reminds me of a Reddit story where a guy had gotten himself an electric vehicle, and had a dedicated line wired into his garage and a charging station installed inside his garage for his vehicle. A karen who lived next door to him had seen him pull in with his electric vehicle, and plug it in before closing the garage door. She also had an electric, but to charge her's she had to go about four miles down the road to the public chargers.
So she stomped up to his door demanding he leave the garage open so she can use the charger, he told her no. She said she'd call the cops if he didn't, he said "Go ahead" and slammed the door in her face, literally. So she, in true karen fashion, called the cops.
They come rolling up and she's shrieking like she's being murdered, according to the posting, saying he's deliberately stealing a public facility and blocking public access from it. So the cops knock on the door, ask him what's going on, and he told them. He has an electric car and had a charging station built into his garage. She shrieked "see, he admitted it!" and demanded the cops arrest him and then force him to keep the garage door open. Cops told her "No it's private property" and basically tell her to buzz off.
So she, apparently, had doubled- down and after multiple more cop calls, tried to force the garage door open herself. And when THAT failed, went to the HOA she was in, his property was not IN the HOA just next door to it, and the HOA tried to bug him, but after some interactions where they risked losing their charter, they desisted. Then she got HERSELF arrested when she rammed her other car, an old jeep, multiple times into his garage door to try to break it down.
He called the cops, she got arrested, and he got a brand new garage door and she moved away.

What I know about (private) chargers ....they do not work at random cars.
You need a special key(card) to start charging. At least ....any normal build level 2 charger does that.
Possible you can tell such a charger that it can load (tesla) with automatic identification. Only pre authorized cars will be able to use that charger.
And as third ...You can connect your private charger to a provider and anyone who can activate chargers from that provider can use it....and will get billed for the tariff you have set on your charger (which can be much higher than the grid price...also providen for a part of the installation costs on the long run.
(May be I'l do that at my next house...making my charger also public available...against payment of coarse)

In the real world with nonfictional Karens who would install a charger in their own driveway without an anti theft device? There are actual cases of charger electrical theft. Buy a Master Lock, use a pin pad for access, or the most simple keep the breaker off when you are not using the charger.

Guess the screams that followed, and complaints from Karens and Kens...

Most decent lv2 chargers come with online enabled features and basic security features like pin code lock etc. I'm surprised this one didn't. Any outside charger should have plug in charge disabled and pin code required by default.

Honestly a few things had me wondering if this was a made up story. I mean after her car not charging, then being told to her face that plugging her car will discharge it, and still plugging it in several times after that expecting it to charge. Had the cops tell her she is in the wrong, plugging it in again until her car was completely dead, and then threatened to him like it was his fault? And still trying to use it after all that? I could go on, and I know Karens can be stupid and entitled but come on.

    • @shirakani

@@nickarganbright7218 Yeah, this is basically yet another of those AI generated revenge stories that's all over YT.
Nobody's THAT stupid to keep plugging in when it fails to work a couple of times. Not to mention the progression is just too unrealistic... If it were me, I wouldn't rig something to drain the battery, I'd just rig it to send the biggest possible surge to the car and literally blow the charging unit straight up and cost her a fortune in repairs.
